The Portside Event Hall, an existing banquet hall located adjacent to The Port Restaurant in the basement of the historic St. James Hotel hadn’t seen major investment since the hotel was expanded in the 1970s. This space welcomes with a pre-function lounge, which was once a complicated system of platforms and ADA ramps severely limiting the use of the space. Alongside, the main banquet hall saw a floor to ceiling renovation, exposing stone walls and adding elements to celebrate the architecture such as wood wrapped structural columns to provide context that was hidden or removed in past iterations. Bathrooms were brought up to ADA standards and redesigned to welcome a variety of guests. The previous space lacked bar service, so one was carved out of an existing storage closet and opens into the lower level of the event space providing the perfect space for weddings and professional mixers. This new space gives the hotel a medium sized flexible event hall that caters to those looking for an industrial style space with elevated detailing, something unique to the community.
