Overlooking the Mississippi River at the historic St. James Hotel, Scarlet Kitchen & Bar was reconfigured as a contemporary hospitality environment grounded in context, material continuity, and use. As part of a broader rebranding initiative, the project included the comprehensive redesign of both the interior restaurant and rooftop patio, designed to function as a cohesive whole.

The rooftop patio redesign features a new roofing and decking system along with new brick piers and railing elements that lean into the hotel’s existing architectural language. A pergola-covered indoor/outdoor bar engages between interior and exterior conditions, supporting year-round use while strengthening the patio’s role as a shared gathering space for hotel guests and the broader community.
